My partner is a timber framer (specialty builder who uses oversized pieces of lumber to build houses, barns, etc. - think old world castle builder) so he cut some 9" x 9" posts and a beam out of Douglas Fir to replace the load bearing wall.

I bought a 2/2 brick ranch in decatur to pop out 2 mo ago and am shocked (even given my experience) at the delays for survey;  8 weeks,  architect;  6-12 mo;  Framers;  12 mo,  blablabla.

Any good framer can tell you if it's load bearing or not and would charge a lot less to nothing either by looking above the wall in the attic or looking at the framing in the wall behind the drywall.

For example, an owner saying he is a framer or knows a cheaper framer, concrete guy, rough plumber ect. and then expecting the contractor to accept the work and continue on with tiling, flooring or drywall ect. the owner's subs, in this situation, will directly affect the contractor's work and most likely will bring them into a dispute if there are issues.
