The idea of being a realtor is like an apprenticeship to prove that you know how to navigate real estate for a certain period of time.  

I have 2.5 years left in my apprenticeship until I am a Journeyman electrician. 

If I were you I’d take the apprenticeship route.

There is no test and no apprenticeship.

In a perfect world free apprenticeship would be prevalent and exist throughout the land.

College or an apprenticeship “prepares” you for a job, but who can say they were 100% ready for their career after college/apprenticeship?!

Whether your state law requires work as an agent under a broker as a sort of an apprenticeship, or whether you can be a broker from the outset and work under a supervising broker, you will have to abide by some one else's ground rules until you can establish independence.
