Thank you for reading this post! I am in California and looking to become a gap funder.
Could anyone direct me to what specific licensing, insurances, estimated startup costs that would be needed?

I would really recommend consulting an attorney that specializes in mortgage lending in California. CA is notorious for having the most strict regulatory and lending requirements in the country and its very important to have all the i's dotted and t's crossed when getting started in this capacity in the state. My advice is, as helpful as BP can be, not to leave it up to internet research and forum comments for this
