Others may like that it doesn't and would want to spend a couple weeks updating and theming it so they can add their own touch and start fresh. 

The resounding theme I'm hearing is strict screening of tenants (which is supposed to be a best practice anyway, whatever the area) and hands- on management.

I currently own and run a wedding venue and vacation rental on the central coast of California.

The most successful places have heavily themed rooms and the like.

These homes often have an entry point of $800,000+ and may require additional capital investment right away to update furniture, cosmetics, or do unique theming in the property so that it can generate maximum revenue from day one. 

I do not make many announcements that promote a “look at me” or “look what I have done” theme.   

Granny's Happy House; Laughter Lane; Sunnyside Up; Golden Gardens... paint a sign for it and carry the theme, a mission statement... 

I found that my weekend rentals are wedding related.
