I used treasury notes as a safe comparison, but you can find the blend of investments that give you better yields while still preserving liquidity.

I would think that avoiding all of the capital gains is preferred over incurring additional property taxes (1.2% per year), but I'm not really sure.On the other hand, neither my mother or my wife/me have assets anywhere near $11.4M, in fact, both of us are probably in the $1-2M net worth range without any prospect of a substantial change; therefore, I'm not concerned with preserving the lifetime exclusion.I would really appreciate any further input you may have...Sincerely,Eric

I'm pretty focused on preservation of  my capital so doubling in two years is not on my goals list.

Many pro's sell at any 8% pullback (IBD advocates this approach) as a basic capital preservation measure.

It just so happened though that I hit the time in my life where I really needed to take on looking for a new home at a time when this one I found was already too far gone into the wrong hands than I seem to have been able to go to save it, and preserve and value it for what it is, and was. 

They didn’t “take over” the house....they are doing property preservation until they foreclose.
