I studied architecture at USC '08 but left the field soon after graduation to continue working on a business I started in my last semester. 7 years later, I am still an entrepreneur/ business owner and would like to continue building passive income through rental properties.

In addition to beginning to invest, I am an architectural contractor and recently completed the real estate licensing exam here in Hawaii.I look forward to meeting and getting to know other investors in my area and throughout the greater BP community!

would love some insight from people on both sides of the fence. i am looking to make a career transition from the banking/trading world into real estate development. i think that it might be "easier" to attain a project/construction management gig and, in fact, had a role lined up at one of the bigger firms and passed on it. hoping some of you will be willing to provide some additional insight from both industries. what makes for a strong candidate in each specialty and what the opportunities are further down the line. a little more about me: 28 years old. b.s. business degree from small, private college. living in tri-state region. have always been quite interested in real estate, construction and architecture and trying to map out what i'd like to make of myself for the next 30+ years.right now i am doing my best to learn basic real estate Excel modeling and Argus (as much as possible via YouTube tutorials).  

Choosing a Location - Focus on drive-to markets, especially now, because they will typically do better in a downturn than fly-to marketsMountain View or not, waterfront or not - Focus on unique properties, both architecturally and the natural setting; trees, nature, and preferably access to water (lake, river, stream, pond, ocean).

As you mentioned, lending my skills (architecture and drafting) along with other physical work might be a good way to get my feet wet and learn from those who know first hand.
