Larger areas, ie. multiple feet square, backfill with 1/4 inch drywall then fill cracks and bring to grade with P of P or patching plaster.

Not that I want to take any shortcuts just would like to avoid the headache from some inspector telling me I need to cut this wall out and move the light switch over 6 inches.

The homes are worth$90,000 total replacement (floods here only go 6 inches over the ground,  so the worse it would be would be a crawlspace suck out, we have tall crawlspaces. )  so there is pretty much no way there is going to be a total replacement. 

A small dot every inch or so does the trick.
