If the brother’s credit check (or one of the other applicants) reveals an eviction or another red flag then I would decline all of the applicants because if u just deny one person they will likely sneak in the rejected potential tenant.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the following transaction(s).The goals: To rehabilitate a 12 unit multifamily in central Maine (fully occupied ~$45K net/year) I plan to hold, currently appraises for $400K, no mortgage/own outrightMunicipality is interested in lending up to $250k for rehabDecent credit, several banks said "easy" to $200k mortgage To refinance the debt/mortgages/liens (~$100K+) of a dying family member (Bob) I am not completely aware of all of Bob's debts/legal issues and they will be numerous (cursory title exams reveal debt comes to roughly 1/10th of conservative valuation of assets)Several properties belonging to Bob are income bearing, or could be income bearing (max gross of ~$4,400/mo within 6 months)Place the remaining assets (after debt payoff) into a trust for the heirs to split.I several options/ways to go about doing something like this.

Don't lie or conseal anything, but reveal your ownership interest during the interview once they see what you bring to the table.Don't be afraid to take a low paying job if opportunity to grow exists.

The guy also revealed that he was having money problems and had just done a stint in jail for having unpaid fines.My thought was either these people are really lousy landlords, or they were desperate for tenants and took the first people who came along.

@Alyssandria L.We ended up passing on the home because of a home inspection that revealed not only a considerable amount of deferred maintenance, but also issues with the foundation, electrical that would've required major expenses that no longer made the numbers work for us.
