If unaffordable (compared to median income) it is a foolish gamble and a bad decision financially. people call this a lifestyle choice.If you want to spend on the family, You may want to buy a second home with a nice garden for 100-200k in the middle of nowhere for week ends.

We finished renovations on a 2 bedroom garden unit and have had a it listed for several weeks with only 4 showings!

We have a green rental with solar panels, efficient furnaces, good insulation, and garden space.

The only sections  of Home Depot that I would go to was the garden and grilling sections)  I'm sorry you're struggling right now, but look at it as a learning opportunity.

I use a hand pump garden sprayer because it's easier to apply the water.
