I now live in Germany, with mother in law because we have a baby and prefer to live with grandparents for the baby, plus its free and clear and no rent. 

If Gen Z wins, it means prices come back down to match wages and the equity people have gained over the past 3 years will be lessened (not saying wiped out but it will take a wack).

Balloons coming due with higher interest rates, China market, China production, Manufacturing production moving back to the US, Worker shortages, Workert pay hikes, Ukraine/Russia food and fertilizer misses, Oil prices increasing due to the OPEC Q1 production curtailments in place, Houthi issues, Panama Canal Water issues, Illegal immigration impact (buy one of those office buildings and rent for $10mm per year for Illegal housing, take advantage) social benefits required, Climate change believe it or not- Buy or sell into that thought process,  US politics, Baby boomers leaving workforce and needing more benefits, Baby Boomers moving from Stocks to Bonds,  etc.I agree things will get worse, but that means more investing opportunities. 

One tenant is moving in with friends (he did ask if I had a 3-4 bedroom and I have several but neither will be ready in time) and the other tenant just had a baby so I don't know if she's moving in with her boyfriend or what's going on but sadly things like this will occur more and more often in this economy. 

Also check for back property taxes, code violations (which may not be wiped out by the auction), etc

@Daniel BryanI agree with JacobBetter returns elsewhere and downside is if your borrower defaults depending on the state it could take years to foreclose and run all that legal and holding costs which wipe out any gains.

To make matters worse, I am living with my family on the top floor with my three-year-old and my two-month-old baby.

We have had people try to move into a one bedroom with two adults and a baby.  

Mobile homes are like baby chick eggs... easy to damage but also easy to repair. 

But otherwise, a room just needs new sheets (we have extras ready to go) and towels, snacks, and then we quickly wipe and spray everything down, vacuum (doesn't always need it after every single stay) and we are out.
