I would expect start-up costs such as stocking linens/bedding, upgrading certain furnishing and amenities, and pass-through costs for listing on the OTAs (like VRBO, Airbnb).

Some co-hosts are locals who will assist and drop off extra linens, do check ins, etc.

I mean like you said we don't all need white table cloths and linen napkins when we go eat.. 

For our other beds (king, queen, twins) I followed advice here and got sheets from Kohls, and those are great.It seems like the simplest thing to do is just leave a set of queen linens in the closet for guests to use on the sofa bed.

While I feel stupid for being scammed because this has never happened to me before, I am glad it was only $2k, and their process is very clever and deceiving.
