In Seattle, to prove established (grandfathered, legal) use, you must show a permit for the use, or prove that the use existed prior to 1957, which has been established as a sort of "ancient amnesty" date.

My houses all have old AC cable, my rule has been if it's ancient fabric coated it goes if at all possible, newer vinyl coated can stay.Account Closed I don't know where the OP is, but in NJ the owner cannot pull a DIY permit for a non owner-occupied home or a multifamily.

.,,,..As I stared open mouth I silently thought, “Nobody would believe this, this has got to be the rarest, most unbelievable occurrence ever.”The unicorn read my mind and said (In ancient Hebrew)......”If you think this is rare, try passing a Section 8 inspection the first time around, now that is a truly rare and unbelievable experience.”Anyway.....I’ve had section 8 inspections here in the Bay Area in Concord and Oakland as well as Cleveland Ohio,...either me or the pm had a oreinsoectuin checklist each time, and each time we failed the first inspection because they always find something that is not on the checklist to ding you on.
