You don't need cash now so why cash out and squander your appreciation?

So, when considering whether I help friends and family out, I will provide money with the expectation that the money is squandered.

They get a big tax refund (actually a gift, since they usually get back more than they put in) and squander it on a vacation or booze or drugs or new rims for their over-priced car.
