Then when you are ready to make the move, rent out the condo .... just make sure that wherever you buy allows you to rent it out. 

If the market doesn't support the increased rental rate, you won't have much luck doing it.Given that you are in Tacoma, I assume you're wondering how you can get the property to cash flow?

I would say they would be great for college areas, possibly even downtown or north tacoma areas where lots of people are taking traveling short-long term jobs. 

Looking for input. Long story short about 9 months ago we moved into a nice, livable fixer-upper with the plan of being here at least 10 years or so. Now family events are causing us to need to move.I'm trying to look...

My wife and I own several rentals in the Tacoma/Pierce County market that cashflow pretty well for us.

And finally, any contractors and foundation people you know around Tacoma, WA would be greatly appreciated.

If you can spend the time before you actually move really developing a set of criteria, you'll be ready to jump on the ideal property when it comes up.
