I'm sure if the aesthetic design demand changed, they would change with it.

I am repositioning an 8- Unit Apartment  (Photos Here )  In my analysis i knew that the property was being under rented & with capital & aesthetic improvements i could drastically raise the rents.  

I will do shingles if steel does not look  right aesthetically.

Usually they were installed for aesthetics. 

If anything people are more about the aesthetic and how clean a place is.

I was also in the art world for 5 years and I use that to reinforce helping with aesthetics and design when buyers are trying to forecast how a home may look.

I've heard pallet wood can have the same aesthetic effect.  

I actually think the gloss shows defects, dust, spills, scratches more readily in addition to (IMO) being less aesthetically pleasing.  

Do you not want to use wood for cost reasons for the aesthetic reasons?
