Maybe I misunderstood him or he meant something else, but I don't see how paying the same amount it would be regardless but just in 3 separate payments helps reduce the mortgage more than it would've been over time.

I think there's a lot of pressure on people these days to 'fit the norm' in so much as 'Well, this is the way they say it's meant to happen so I guess we have to do this...' even in situations where it doesn't necessarily suit.

I meant to say "earlier this year we decided to sell the whole unit outright" The list price was/is $679k
