Foreclosures today: 160,000 this year.And home prices are downward sticky: sellers don't sell if they don't get the price they want, they just wait - unless they are forced to sell.

@Mason Hjelmeland, sorry to say, but I'd advise you get legal counsel from an experienced l/t attorney.It is a sticky wicket, in part because you don't mention if he was just arrested or convicted, or what his incarceration entails.Was he by any chance rioting?

@Ben Rice As soon as you have to use "air quotes" to describe your plan I think we've hit on good ol' fashioned mortgage fraud ;-)  You're committing to make that your primary residence (for a period of time) and that's the intent of the FHA program.
