In a recent flood where river water rose to 5" above my garage lowest elevation I used a $75 sump pump from The Home Depot connected to it a 5/8" garden hose and dump it into a storm drain (which actually drains back out to the river).

Over time, as more seeds are planted, if I tend the garden well I expect increasing harvests every year.When the harvests are bountiful enough to meet my expenses, plus a fair amount of excess, then that would be a good time to leave the 9 to 5 if I choose to.Not in any hurry, my job is very secure, pays well, and I can do it as long as need be.

As applies to us - we're not fans of huge cities - smaller 'homey' cities are more our vibe - ones that we could invest in yet easily live outside of and have a bit of land for gardening/blacksmithing and general outdoor pursuits.

Situation: Got water in the garden unit of a 3-flat investment property about a week ago, got a new cast iron 3/4 hp sump pump, confirmed that it worked.
