Any litigator worth his or her salt can turn what happened to you into a lawsuit that can withstand a motion to dismiss.  

The "trustee", a police officer in uniform, read, one at a time, the address and opening bid for 6 properties that he had on a paper list.

Surely you can have verifiable documentation of identity be one of your application criteria, used uniformly across the board, like minimum credit score and sufficient income?

I think they may not legally be able to contract.But I have seen a fellow who worked over nights as (on foot) uniformed security in a 100+ unit complex, in a decent neighborhood who could handle it.Roaming the parking lot shining a flashlight between cars and in the bushes.Does that mean everyone could--I doubt it.You'll probably have to just wait and see what unfolds--and enjoy life along the way.And some of these guys grow up really strong and can (part time) unload trucks and stuff like that.Good Luck!

In this situation I would install security system with alarm and motion censored lights.

There is a purposeful strategy to name as many defendants as possible to hedge their bets...even if only one defendant may remain through discovery and pre-trial motions.

I just feel like I am seeing things in slow motion and curious how anyone getting started stays ahead of the millions of other investors.

Right now each attorney told me that once they file the third time after a dismissal that you may be able to get motion for relief but depends on the judges.
