I have the architect drawing, the structural engineer approval and approval from the condo association. 

I'm a licensed architect and have 10+ years of experience in the design and construction world.

I guess the lesson learned here was to work with an architect and contractor that are familiar with the perticular township to avoid this kind of delay.

Find a really good, experienced local architect that does residential renovations and ask them to pay them for an hour of their time to talk it over with you.

Our architect said he had a good relationship with the city and can get us permits in as little as 3-4 weeks.
