I have not seen a drop in tourist interest because of it so far.Another thing to point out, Okaloosa Island is the closes beach on the Emerald Coast to the VPS Airport (unless guests arrive in Pensacola).

I can go closer to home for that.I have mentioned in many replies to posts in the BP forums that the security risks for foreigners in Mexico (in areas where tourists go) are way overblown by a way too sensationalistic press looking for bad news to sell.

Along with some tourist activities.WE also meet with some locals who got us an audience with the Minister of lands and the Deputy Prime Minister that is working on a housing project called starter houses for Belizian citizens.

Hi All,I've been looking at STR opportunities up-and-down the Shenandoah Valley and have been considering properties in Massanutten, a self-described four season tourist destination.

Because of the size of the city, it has a pretty high murder rate, even by Mexican standards (it happens very far from the tourist areas so the vacationers see pretty much none of it).

I live in one of the most touristic areas of the whole country, have a solid background in the b2c travel industry and I am willing to go the short term route eventually mixed with mid-term in case of opportunities in specific areas where I think it would make sense.

With Universals EPIC opening next year, now is the time to get your house in order, get good reviews and plan for whats coming, it will be hard to miss with all the new tourists this will bring on top of the 70 Million we already get. 

I think that the only way you can possibly cash flow a duplex, while owner-occupying it, is if it is in a highly desired tourist area and you will rent the other unit as a short term rental and can get ridiculously high nightly rates. 

For the last 6+ months I've been hearing about the lack of tourists in the Orlando/Kissimmee area and hosts struggling to get decent bookings.

The key is to invest in STR friendly/tourist heavy destinations.
