My VA Loan limit isn't high enough to buy property where I live so I am looking out of state for options.I have the ability to travel to Texas as often as needed for work, etc. and can bring the wife and kids out for the entire summer.

I would try to line up your money so that when a deal you feel very confident about comes along you can pounce on it.

unless you are very confident with the contractors work and they know exactly what you want, I would highly suggest you wait until you get back.The reason I say this is because a contractor more than likely will not meet your expectations of what you want.

For example you find a homeowner in your travels that wants to sell pretty much retail.

I believe that working as a real estate agent will give me plenty of great experience and knowledge to improve my confidence and skills as an investor.
