No clue if that applies to modern day.its algae and its seasonal.. worst months happen to be August sept in the heat of the summer when most tourist think of going to a lake.it was caused mainly by the run off from the pear orchids  ( fertilizers) that were not native.. and you hit it at the wrong time and yes its bad.. but not as bad as it used to be.. now a days its actually clear for a good part of the year. but a shallow natural lake like this will have a lot of plant growth.
