As a HML, I appreciate meeting someone to get to know the person to see if there is a "fit" in terms of a person's business philosophy, ethics, reputation, experience, and types of projects they are looking to do. 

My philosophy is it never hurts to ask?

I disagree with the "invest in your own backyard only" philosophy.

My philosophy is buy hold and turn into short term vacation rentals.

I attended the 3 day event, and while there was no way I was going to put 27K on a credit card for their mentorship, I was fascinated and hooked on the philosophy of cash flow.  

Physics, statistics, philosophy and evolutionary psychology are easier.

They provide a new way of thinking about money, a philosophy if you will.

I made my first investment with a Memphis based company because I saw great videos of the founder explaining his philosophy.

I also put in beautiful landscaping.My real estate philosophy has been to get it for the right price - sweat equity - so I can rewire, replumb, new roof, etc. depending on the age of the home and what has been done. 

I'm a sophomore studying finance at a business school so I have a strong grasp over long-term stock market investing, but much less over property rental, but I definitely subscribe to the buy and hold philosophy as opposed to the 'flipper' mentality.
