This reduces grease build up on the kitchen surfaces, if the tenants use the fan.Otherwise, yeah - it's a bit goofy.If you were doing a remodel, you could move the dishwasher to the other side of the sink, move the fridge to that end of that wall, and move the stove so it is centered between two cabinets.Another option would be to do all that plus replace the stove with built-in oven(s) and place a cooktop on the island and a vent hood over it.

The rental I purchased has a broken dishwasher. 

Put dishwasher to the right of the kitchen sink.  

The concern is the dishwasher would be "locked in" because of the difference in floor height of the cabinets/dishwasher. 

''normally' those policies would never cover things like if the dishwasher floods your unit or floods the unit below you or if your renters dog bites someone or normally anything in your unit or any protections you'd gain from a home owners policy. your ho-6 policy can then be custom tailored to your situation, such as being a rental.
