I think a bigger question to the wires lasting that long (I think today's wiring can last just fine without use but that's just a guess) is did a rat/trash panda/etc chew any wiring?  

If you don't have 2x the income over what your payment will be the banks are giving you friendly advice:  don't bite a property off if you can't chew it.

Unless you have some construction background and knowledge, a full gut job is probably biting off more than you can chew.

I get this is a lot to chew off. 

I might've bitten off more than I can chew, and wanted to see what you guys think about my situation.My buddy is a remodeler and has been kind enough to help me through all the repairs/upgrades on the property.
