Cities are required to select sites for new housing developments to address the housing shortage, but when cities are located on peninsulas with a finite amount of land there is a limited number of feasible lots to build on.

If you do not mind me asking, what site do you use for pre-foreclosure?

Getting wiped out with your cash is definitely a bummer, I don't think defaulting on a lender is a good exit strategy either.I started with live in flips, over 22 years of living in a construction site with 3 kids.

If you look at some of them, there isn't enough room to pull it out of the space, remember these things are like 70 feet long and you have to factor in the truck too.If the new site doesn't have a pad you will need to do that.

Dedicating time to study and learn through resources like YouTube, BiggerPockets, and other sites is invaluable.

There's going to be a learning curve but as you progress down the host road you'll learn what's needed to minimize your time needed on site.

However, this site and the BP community ensures there is no "gatekeeping" to proper real estate education.  

To pick the right house, use sites like Zillow, Redfin, and Realtor.com, know what's going on in the local area, and look at loan options like regular bank loans or FHA loans.
