HUD VASH vouchers are only given to vets who are at risk of homelessness, so it is logical that they would have experienced trouble paying their bills prior to receiving a voucher.

The tenant is the one that is awarded the section 8 voucher and they will seek you out if you have a rental property that they are interested in.

Here is an idea Amy....Unless it is really a Section 8 limited market (like most rentals in the area are voucher recipients and all the responses to ads would be Section 8), you might tell  the housing agency  and the tenant that you will not be participating in the program with this property (unless that was the strategy and plan) and give one month notice if month to month or prepare to wind up when the lease  ends or asap if possible.

Sec 8 Tenants are USUALLY much better than market tenants as if sec8 catches them trashing it (Or you report it) They will loose their voucher effectively for 4-6 years (That's the wait time for new vouchers).

I sent a copy of my Breach of Lease to the housing office just for their awareness and was pleasantly surprised that someone from the "integrity unit" reached out to me to get photos of the damage because they were probably not going to give her another voucher to move.This doesn't mean to expect them to hold your hand or help you through your problems.
