I'd wait for them to come to me - if they ever did.And if they did, I'd say that I was really concerned about people dealing drugs on my property, or homeless people squatting there.  

An HA in central NC prioritizes those "homeless or living in substandard housing" and income is not a priority part of the equation.

That story seems to be about illegal subletting of sorts, which caused people to be ''displaced'' aka homeless.

Now, after you've refused to rent to someone, and they wind up homeless, they land on the city's doorstep, and the city listens to their sob story, decides you are wrong, and suddenly you have tax audits, building inspectors, and enough alphabet soup to DROWN you in your life. 

There is a Federal Program (Administration for Community Living) that provides funding and technical support to Community Development and Housing Preservation organizations throughout the country that focus on building or restoring housing that can then be used for Supportive Housing (http://www.acl.gov/About_ACL/FederalInitiatives/Ho...)The challenge is that the majority of this funding is targeted to the chronically homeless, Veterans, and people with HIV/AIDS.

And as a shelter volunteer, I see so many other homeless Pits that just want love and attention.

The high prices have driven some middle class out of the State, created growth of homelessness, etc...Back to rates of return. 

People will go to great lengths to not be homeless. 

There have been issues with homeless people gaining access to the building and sleeping on the couch in there. 

The government needs to be compensating landlords if it wants to require them to house people under government order.Of course, nobody wants these people to be homeless, but as I say, if the government wants to in effect use eminent domain to take over your property so it can be used, even temporarily, as government housing, then the government should have to pay reasonable compensation under that law.
