Grants for housing Intellectually disabled adults in Pa?
I will provide housing to Intellectually Disabled Adults in the near future. Does the government provide grants to landlords that house I.D. adults?
.................
Hello. My name is Wendy and I'm looking to acquire some real estate connections. I have no experience or training in real estate. I just began teaching myself the basics after reading Rich Dad, Poor Dad and watching a life changing Youtube video by Jay Morrison. One day I will provide housing to Intellectually Disabled Adults who want to live on their own. My brother, David, just passed away July 2, 2016 and was intellectually disabled but lived on his own in an apartment with other mentally handicapped adults across town. I was in the process of looking for an apartment similar to the one he lived in that was closer to me before he died but was unsuccessful. Freedom and independence were very important to him that's why he refused to let his disability prevent him from living on his own. That alone is my purpose for wanting to invest in real estate. To help others like my brother obtain their I independence.
Thanks for reading.

@Wendy Hutchins - I share your passion and applaud your efforts. I currently lease an apartment to a Social Services agency in NYC that supports independent living for people with a mental health diagnosis. I am also looking for to expand the inventory of available semi-independent Supportive Housing units.
There is a Federal Program (Administration for Community Living) that provides funding and technical support to Community Development and Housing Preservation organizations throughout the country that focus on building or restoring housing that can then be used for Supportive Housing (http://www.acl.gov/About_ACL/FederalInitiatives/Ho...)
The challenge is that the majority of this funding is targeted to the chronically homeless, Veterans, and people with HIV/AIDS. People who can live somewhat independently (like your brother) often do not qualify for the housing these programs provide.
I am exploring creative ways to leverage public and private capital, as well as traditional real estate investing to address this demand. I am definitely interested in continued dialogue and opportunities to collaborate.
Blessings
