I spent the last 8 years in New York for some school, and religious studies (im an orthodox jew), and I am moving back to LA next week, bringing along a Masters in Education and my recent ordainment as a Rabbi, as well as a few years experience as a Volunteer EMT.I am really excited to learn more about real estate.

Welcome, @Celiene O'Hara.The orthodox BP advice would be to pull equity out of your duplex that you've owned since 2001 to buy the next place all cash, immediately pull all your equity out of that one, and so on, but I honestly think the orthodox BP advice is often a bit too liberal.There's nothing "wrong" with equity...So maybe do that once or twice, and chill with 2-3 properties for a while.Anywho, the Bay Area BP crowd is very active and helpful, don't hesitate to reach out to anyone.

You may also want to explore other, less orthodox methods, such as getting hired as an assistant to someone who has MLS access.I think you should probably read up on things before you take any action.
