My husband and I did about a year and a half of college before moving up to KS.

There is no reason you can't do this in College Station or wherever your home town is, or in Dallas. 

For instance, Berea is a charming college town, but the combination of local taxes and less favorable price-to-rent ratios makes it less appealing for investment compared to other areas in the state.Agree here! 

We are hoping to use our rental property as a nest egg to pay for our daughter's college expenses/schooling/income in the future.

I hear that it does really well in College towns.

While I can’t speak directly to the best STR spots in Houston, I firmly believe the College Station area is worth considering.
