I had toyed with the idea of creating my own real estate management company for many years and finally took the plunge last fall.I currently manage mostly vacation(absentee owners) properties and high end single family rentals although I only have a handful of properties under management.

I've actually been seriously toying with the idea of joining them, if for nothing else then so I can attend their 2-day seminar which is only available to paid members.Supposedly, you can learn quite a bit during the 2-day seminar, and I've heard that the second day is focused on how to transition from SF to MF, which right now is actually my top goal.

So we we're toying with the idea of pursuing a multi-family property that we could rent out to multiple tenants in Chicagoland.I am speaking out of complete ignorance, but I feel like the net return for a multi-family in Chicago will be higher than two single family homes outside of Portland.Thoughts?

Actually, I'd lean toward a short sale, list above the payoff and you can go down.Probably needs to address his personal finances with a professional and maybe a shrink, divorce usually means for a younger guy, footloose and fancy free, dating and toys, again, I speak from experience but didn't go broke or get in trouble at it (LOL).He might also look into a loan modification if he's in default, get the payments down.
