My fiance and I really like smooth, but we were advised that no matter what a great job the painter/contractor does, those imperfections will show.

I'v been doing it here for 4.5 years non stop, and still had to look for a painter just now to do my house trims.

Every single surface was covered which took painters several days in 100 degree heat to get it done.

We do plan to have a painter come back to do touch ups.  

If you DIY, then the best plan I've seen is tape painter's plastic all around and over the floor.

Any future entrance to the home required a mask.Long story short, contractors and subs (carpet installers, painters, etc.) were impossible to mnage from afar once I got back home and did not do the jobs in the timeframes or qualities I would have demanded had it been a local deal.

This was a 6 week project with my small crew. 35 gallons of paint and copious amounts of painters caulk really make the difference!
