I assumed there were some recorded violations, but the previous owner had removed the placards placed by Code Enforcement, so I was unaware of the severity of the status until last week, when I discovered the placards and an associated court case in the ACCELA database. 

You do want a desirable place, however you don't need Taj Mahal status.

Anyone can escape these things, but the social pressure is challenging. 

I also tested their social security number verification by using a number that I know does not match the name, and it came back as "validated"! 

Hi @Liz White - I'm sure you've discovered this information already, but I wanted to share it with you in case you haven't seen it (directly from the NC Real Estate Commission):"...requirements for an applicant who holds a current real estate license in another state (or U.S. territory or Canadian jurisdiction) that has been on active status within the previous three (3) years and that is equivalent to NC's provisional or "full" broker license." --- view the requirements here.
