Transferring Real Estate License

Hello all. I am a new investor in North Carolina looking for my first deal. I am currently working with a realtor, however I have decided I would like to get my own license at some point so I can see more properties and put out more offers without having to wait on someone else's schedule. I don't have any plans to work as a real estate agent, I want the license solely to help with my investing.

My problem is, North Carolina doesn't allow you to take the pre licensure course online. I work a full-time schedule of 12-hr shifts, and my schedule is different every week and includes weekends, so there is no way I can take a classroom course without quitting my job. I am considering getting licensed in another state that does allow online courses (thinking Virginia), then transferring the license to North Carolina. This seems like a roundabout way to do it, but is the only option I can see at present.

Has anyone else ever done something similar? Are there any rules preventing this, or requirements like making a certain number of sales in the state I'm licensed in before I can transfer the license? Any input would be appreciated.

Replied

Most states don’t have reciprocity with other states. If they do, you still have to take your state test and pass it. Your state RE dept should have all these rules online.
