I would paint the cabinets white, install new laminate countertops, tile back splash, tile floor.That is as high end as you should go for a B class rental.

To be honest the picture of the cabinet door did not look that bad at all, even though the color is not necessarily in trend right now, but you may not even need to paint at all if you pick the right tone of flooring, countertop, and backsplash.

We only use ceramic on walls in bathrooms or kitchen backsplashes, as broken floor tiles are common and annoying to repair.

Tile backsplashes can also help but I think that will end up looking dated sooner, depending on what gets installed.
