The draw back to these loans is that they are more paperwork heavy than the other "portfolio" types of loans....but if you have ever received a loan on your primary home, it's likely that you will go through the same type of paperwork here with conventional lending.

The fact that these types of thing (along with special assessments etc) are mostly out of your control certainly makes condos a drawback, but as I imagine is the case for you I didn't really see any other options for acquiring a place that could reasonably work as a rental when I move out.
