I live near Chapman University and Children's Hospital of Orange County.

It seems as if you have at least 2 children, id suggest looking at duplexes with 3 beds, or a larger home with an ADU (Attached dwelling unit) that you can rent to alleviate the mortgage payments. 

I want my children to attend good school there and that comes at a cost.

My current job I work remotely but have two children that need to stay in the area so outside of St.

Personally, I've seen tenants granted a continued occupancy/renewal of their lease for the following:(1) threatening other tenants/neighbors with physical harm(2) dealing drugs out of the apartment with children residing in the same building(3) discharging a firearm on the premises(4) refusing entry to the landlord/his agent for necessary repairsAnd I am sure there are many other examples of bad behavior that the property owner is powerless to react to.

I would love to be able to get to the point where I don't have to do the typical 9-5 grind and be more involved in my children's lives.

I am still leaning toward the holding company, but mainly for anonymity and passing assets down to my children.

Tenants who felt it their right to drop by my house after moving out and not receiving an immediate refund of their security deposit (versus 30 day timeline communicated in writing).Perpetually "nomadic tenants" that thought moving every year was a normal part of life (costing 1-2 months of lost rent/year).Constant maintenance/repairs from tenants that that let children destroy walls, carpets, and fixtures, repairs that inevitably fell on owners to repair for any subsidized housing program inspection.
