Styles really do change as you go from one area to another. 

I would strongly urge to consider starting with a house-hack, something that mitigates risk factors and gives better opportunity to practice and "dial in" on the NE "vibe", and that's a key thing to understand, it's very much a NE vibe thing, hard to define in exact words, but it's a manner and style of things.

Individuals can find many different opportunities to earn income in real estate because it will never go out of style.

There are people that swear by vinyl but the floors you are looking at now may have 40 years of wear on them and they are still in style.
