None for summer but we do notify tenants in winter to winterize the lawn sprinkler system (which is supplied by a dedicated well & pump) so pipes don't freeze.

@Brian Garlington I am a current renter and had my pipes freeze due to insufficient insulation this winter in Boston and didn't have a working shower for about 5 days (2/1 apartment, only bathroom).

The freezing weather has caused delays.This whole process has been frustrating and a big waste of time.

A high in the 60's with a low below freezing, creates expansion and contraction that causes serious damage when water isn't wear it's supposed to be.

You will essentially "freeze" your funds by buying put options to protect you from the downside and then borrow against your account.

I have replaced many of the runs--largely the copper is at end of useful life, but also I have some electrolysis where an earlier owner hung the copper with a dis-similar metal and there is heavy corrosion.I also insulated all pipes and ventilate well in summer, cover vents for freeze months.And I had the PEX bid, two... but have not tackled it just yet...

If you only turn off the water, the water remaining in the line will freeze and burst the line. 

And even 47% is well above freezing.  

If they are in a unit that is susceptible to freezing if abandoned you may want to at least drive by and see what's going on.
