What about cultured marble?

Just like with anything the popularity for some would be low for multiple reasons; but a main one  would be they dont understand any of the cultural aspects and just cant adequately operate there.  

These are opportunities that I would not have taken when I was still in due to both the culture of the enlisted life and the time available, as you mentioned.

The compensation you receive is a small stipend and the culturally rich experience you receive from living with somebody from a vastly different society. 

Around here, even where the code requires a permit-- it's just not always commonly done in areas without enforcement so you have to kind of know the local culture

I presume it has to do with purchase power and, to a lesser degree, political/cultural values.With that being said, local demand (for San Diego real estate) has not waned.

big melting pot of cultures but since the govmit owns all the housing .. they make sure there is no concentration of race or ethnic cultures.. each building has a ratio as to the entire population of the country. 

In general, the market is quite active with a range of options available for travelers.Portland is a popular tourist destination, known for its vibrant food scene, outdoor activities, and cultural attractions.

My personal opinion agrees as many buyers are looking for a more contemporary feel without having the ability to new build.
