I'm out on a one year sabbatical with my wife and two small children, traveling the US in a vintage Airstream visiting national parks and other places.I've thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail and cycled across America, and in the future I'm aiming to one day paddle the length of the Danube River and sail around the Americas. 

I would by all means if he is offering have him do some research for you... then you can pay him to teach you to paddle board !!!

His problem started before Covid-19 so he is up the creek with no paddle. 

those folks paying you their rent every month, if they were to lose their jobs, you would be up a **** creek with no paddle. 

The training is specific to a system, step by step, that only tosses them into the deep end where they dog paddle to survive.

Kind of feels like I have my row boat and paddle on the trail but zero direction to the water.

I've kayaked the TN river and we paddled through Chattanooga.

A lot like table tennis on a court played with paddle and wiffleball.
