Continue to read as many blogs, books and articles as you can in order to educate yourself on the topic and to reach out to those that are doing what you want to do!

From the moment that I started looking into RE, posting on BP, etc til getting an offer accepted -- ~2.5 weeks.I learn far better through experience than books, blogs, and podcasts. 

I've read some blogs and done some research on repairing termite damage (particularly replacing the entire sill) and unfortunately the feedback varies wildly from "absolutely walk away" to "it's not that big of a deal".
