The companies use this donation as a tax write off. 

They once offered up the basement for furniture storage for a charity drive... and also used the washing machine to wash about 20 loads of clothing they were going to donate.

What contractor can you find who will donate his time and materials to someone??  

First: don´t take only 5% vac., 10% is the better way, for my calc I take even 15%.

Agree with J. on the HVAC, functional and no issues is good enough.I got alot of stuff at the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store, donated materials, often new stuff is there.

This scheme that may seem a little bit complicated is to minimize french taxes constraints on donations ...On the Atlanta properties I am still at a loss but I still hope to recover a little bit (at this time I am waiting what happened in october).

You have lots and lots of time and sometimes someone with a huge nice kitchen donates their stuff because it's no longer cutting edge.
