Being educated and being able to tell someone why  you think it is or isn't a deal and base it off of something other than NOI or "just because it is" I think separates people that do this for a living and those that read one book and now decide that they are the next donald trump.

Remember too, each township, village and municipality has their own overriding codes (trumping Illinois or National code) so it is best to call the village and ask them directly or a local architect.
