I didn't know he had one that he wanted to sell and now we are chatting about rent, maintenance costs, seller financing, vacancies and such.I was really surprised at these responses but I'm so inspired! 

Needless to say, I was inspired and have set my first goal to invest in a du/triplex that I will personally occupy and rent in 2016 when my current lease ends.

Beating someone up or expecting them to respect you when you have beaten down on price doesn't inspire respect or loyalty.If you want to save money make it up front with your acquisition cost not on the backs of people who can help you.You asked for an opinion that's it.
