Like when you call to these people you don't know, one thing youd like to do is to be natural and honest but I don't know if I'm allowed to tell the truth about where I'm calling from when they asked and it actually makes me uncomfortable sometimes because I do not know what to say and your words here gives me light.

The only way banks can verify you are telling the truth is if they can check your tax returns/T4 slips with the CRAIn usa, if you are going with a big bank (low interest mortgages), and they have doubt about your self employed income, they will pull your tax returns themselves, not ask you for a copy you can easily falsify.
