You need more info.....not vague info from the "help desk" person.......There is a big difference between "hey I just found a ticking time bomb issue, lets fix it now before it explodes on you and cost 10x the amount to address it now"vs"This isn't code....it works just fine and probably will for the next 30 years....but its not current code"You need more specific info..... but this smells like BS to me.....

In every world this is a mathematically inferior situation to paying less for the property, unless you are willing to gamble that the 10-40k is a drop in the bucket because the place is going to explode upwards in value...?
