We've purchased properties near bases where we have been stationed, to include Arizona, Texas, Florida and England. 

In England this is common place.

Those areas have far better skiing (WAY taller mtns), far better hiking (WAY taller mtns, better views) & WAY better fall foliage (better in New England than PA).Poconos does win the opioid and meth addiction category though

I've moved around quite a bit (NV, UT, ID, WA, HI, Japan, UK) and recently begun putting down roots here in CO after returning from 4 years in England working for NATO.

We have a saying in England that "you don't ever win the lottery unless you buy a ticket"....meaning, however lowballing you think an offer is - well, it's an offer!

Some years it could cost hundreds or thousands and other years almost nothing (because new england weather is crazy(.

Hi Kevin,Hope all is well in sunny Detroit and you`re well on the way to achieving your goals.To introduce myself :- I am from (near ) Nottingham.England,build houses/apps etc to renovate and sell on or rent out (in England)We`ve recently bought a house in Detroit that is now being rented out.The purchase was a sort of package deal with property bought for a set figure with monthly rental,again a set figure,being guaranteed for a number of years.During our visit to Detroit when we bought the property,we thought next time maybe we could try a more do-it- yourself route.By employing our realtors/agents/legal team/builders etc etc.However, a better idea maybe to team up with someone on the ground in maybe a joint venture and pay them to project manage.We have cash ready to buy and can come to Detroit (ready for a break!!)

I'm living in New England for the last 4 years (new job relocation from Michigan) and new to real estate investing and learning as much as I can taking in knowledge through podcasts, e-books, and webinars.
